Mount Vernon is the   seating center of the Skagit County.  As at the year 2010, the city had got a total population of 31,743 according to the US Census bureau. History

The city was named after Mount Vernon which was a big plantation where the first president of United States; George Washington, used to rest.  As at that time, around 1870s, the city was highly timbered and therefore the main activity was logging. This logging process resulted to development of hotels, salons, and other businesses which later expanded to form the current city we know today.  Currently, the city has a total coverage of 12.61 square miles out of which 12.3 square miles is land while the rest is covered by water.
