History

The land on which the Everett city is built on came under the ownership of the United States through the PointElliott treaty. This treaty was signed in 1855 and it was meant to govern the territorial boundaries of   Washington State as well as other economic rights with the focus on the land where the Everett city is currently situated.  The treaty involved the native inhabitants in the land together with the existing federal government of the Washington state. As time went by, this land came under full control of Washington jurisdiction and in 1984, the city was given the privilege to be the home of the U.S. Navy Homeport.
