History

Spokane was natively inhabited by the Spokane tribe which was a hunting and gathering community. The Spokane’s stated that their ancestors came up from the “north”. The Spokane’s thought the two were sacred and feared them.

Moreover, this city is about 18 miles from Idaho and 92 miles south of the Canada-US border. It is worth noting that the lowest elevation in this city is the northernmost point of the Spokane River within city limits at 1,608 feet and the highest elevation is on the northeast side, near the community of Hillyard at 2,591 feet.
