Anacortes is a city that is located is located in Skagit County, Washington. This city’s name is an adaptation of the name Anne Curtis Bowman. This was the wife of an early settler known as Amos Bowman. As of the 2010 census, this city had an approximated population of 15778. This city boasts of being one of the principal cities in the Mount Vernon-Anacortes Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

This city was officially incorporated in May, 1891. A railroad surveyor by the name Amos Bowman moved his family in the northern tip of the Fidalgo Island in 1877. He began promoting this area as an obvious terminal for the Northern Pacific Railroad. However, his dream never came to pass as speculators lost money through the Oregon Improvement Company.
