Friday Harbor is a town that is located in San Juan County, Washington. This town had an estimated population of 2162 as at the 2010 population census. The town is the major commercial center for the San Juan Islands archipelago due to its location on San Juan Island.
History
This town’s name originates from Joseph Poalie Friday. He worked at the Puget’s Sound agricultural company’s Fort Cowlitz. He later moved to the San Juan Island where he herded sheep around the harbor. After the Pig war in the 1860’s, a peaceful settlement as obtained. As a result, San Juan Islands became a separate county in 1873. Friday Harbor was consequently named the County’s seat. Friday Harbor was officially incorporated in 1909.
