Nestled in the Snohomish County of Washington, Index is a sparsely populated town. This charming town is widely known for its picturesque locations and scenes. History
The town has a rich history, with early settlement dating back to the late 1800s. It was a hub for logging and mining in its earlier years. Before the American colonization, the Skykomish people used to live across the Skykomish River in multiple villages. Soon, the two important villages served as the base camp for the people traveling to the Cascades for hunting and other recreational activities. Later, in 1889, Index was founded on the homestead. The town Index was named for the nearby Mount Index. In 2022, Index and neighboring regions were placed under mandatory evacuation but soon restored to their original positions.
Area
Located in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains alongside the North Fork Skykomish River, the town measures a total area of 0.23 sq mi. Further, on the 3 miles south of the town lies the summit of Mount Index. Further, the location of the town is identified as 1 mile north of US Highway 2 and the west side of Stevens Pass. The BNSF, or Great Northern Railway, is stretched in the middle of the place.
Tourism
