History

The Dulce community has its roots as a ranching operation that was established by the Gomez family. It had initially been given the name ‘Agua Dulce’ which is a Spanish noun denoting sweet water. The reason behind this is that Dulce had numerous natural springs that adequately served both the people and the animals that were reared around the area. The original Dulce homestead was established by Eugenio Gomez in 1877. Later on in 1887, the Apache natives were put into the Jicarilla Apache Reservation.
