Windstream Kinetic Internet in Adel, GA

Adel, founded in 1889 and is currently the seat of Cook County, is located on Interstate 75 about thirty hours north of Valdosta in South Georgia. Adel had a population of 5,571 people, according to the United States Census Bureau in 2020.Adel, GA even has an active internet connection from Windstream Kinetic Internet.

Adel was known as Puddleville even before its roads were paved, and the name referred to the numerous water puddles that flooded low-lying streets after a rainstorm. According to legend, Puddleville’s first postmaster, Joel J. “Uncle Jack” Parrish, noticed the word Philadelphia on a Croker bag and campaigned for the name change. Using the letters “a-d-e-l” from Philadelphia, town authorities devised a distinctive name. They celebrated admission into the county in 1889, which was still a part of Berrien County.

The state legislature did not create Cook County until 1918.

History

The Cook County Schools and Memorial Home Health, a health partnership that runs a hospital and a convalescent center, are two of Adel’s top employers. The development of the Cook County Workforce Development Center, a satellite campus of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, has further aided Adel’s economy. In 2002, classes at the 13,905-square-foot worker training center began. Community leaders and people generously supported the center through direct monetary donations and in-kind services.

The Workforce Development Center, now a vibrant educational institution, provides technical and business degree programs in various fields. Adel continues to be a desirable location for manufacturing and industrial businesses to start or expand their operations.

Demographics

Many visitors come to Adel and Cook County because of Interstate 75’s ease. Reed Bingham State Park is a huge state park that runs from Cook County into Colquitt County and surrounds a 375-acre lake, and it is roughly six miles from the interstate. The park also provides magnificent walks through the southern Georgia woods in addition to fishing.

The Jim Paulk-Sowega building, sometimes known as the Watermelon Building because of its outside watermelon theme, is another point of attraction. It was built in the 1930s and served as Adel’s chamber of commerce. Alice Flint created a New Deal painting named Plantation Scene on the exterior of the post office in 1941.
