The weaving traditions of the Trujillo and Ortega families also forms part of Chimayo’s history. These have a weaving business both in the Placita of Centinela and near the Plaza del Cerro. Other traditions come in the form of wood carvings, tinsmithing, and the making of religious paintings.

Chimayo lies at 36°0′12″N 105°56′25″Won the map. This is within the Sangre de Cristo Mountains that are approximately 38.4 kilometers north of Santa Fe. As such, it is 6075 feet above sea level. The United States Bureau states that Chimayo has a total area of 5.5 square miles. As of the 2010 census, the total population was capped at 3177 people.
