The city later acquired the system, allowing the Sheridan Water and Sewer Department to manage it without relying on local finances. The wastewater treatment plant in Sheridan is located at the end of Gatzke Drive and releases treated effluent into Big Creek in compliance with an Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality permit. The facility is built for circulation of 0.67 MGD and has three-cell pond procedures preceded by a retention pond (2.5 MLD).
