Kirby’s Confederates were on his rear flank as they approached the Jenkins’ Ferry on the Saline River. A bloody\u00a0battle of Jenkins’ Ferry<\/a>\u00a0ensued. The Union troops barely crossed the\u00a0Saline River<\/a>, and when they did, they burned the pontoon bridge and that resulted in a victoryas the Union marched back to Union-controlled Little Rock via Prattville and Old Belfast along the Old Camden Road.<\/p>\n

One of the main attractions of Leola is the man-made Cox Creek Lake. created by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission by damming Cox Creek, a tributary of the Saline River.\u00a0The Lake covers an area of approximately 254 acres outside Leola’s city limits.\u00a0Camping is permitted, tent or R.V. for a fee, and also includes a boat ramp and a fishing pier.<\/p>\n
