The first people of Grant County are said to have lived about 12,000 BC. He took a skeleton, embers, arrow points, casings, and a portion of a large clay pipe with him. Water pipes were first installed in Sheridan in the 1930s by a private company. The city later acquired the system, allowing the Sheridan Water and Sewer Department to manage it without relying on local finances. Sheridan can now process 4.5 million liters of water (17 million liters) of groundwater per day (MGD\/MLD) from five wells. The wastewater treatment plant in Sheridan is located at the end of Gatzke Drive and releases treated effluent into Big Creek in compliance with an Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality permit.
