Located near the intersection of US Highway 175, FM 198 and Farm Road 90, the small town of Mabank Texas falls in the southeast corner of Kaufman County, Texas. The eastern edge of Cedar Creek Reservoir is a stone’s throw away from town. Since the Cedar Creek is a popular destination for weekenders from mainly the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area, the setup of this outdoor and recreational facility around the Cedar Creek Lake in 1965 has helped local businesses in and around Mabank grow to an extent and has contributed to the town’s economy.

The town of Mabank is spread over an area of 3 square miles and as of the 2010 census, the population of the town was 4,468 and there were 658 families residing within the city limits. The city has a predominantly white population (92.2%) while people of Hispanic or Latino origin make up approximately 5.7% of the population. The percentage of African American living in the city was 5.11%. According to the 2000 census, the median family income of Mabank was estimated at $40,694 and the town’s per capita income was $15,154.

Originally, the town of Mabank (75156) grew out of the settlement colony which was called Lawndale, located barely a mile off from the area where the town of Mabank stands today. When the Southern Pacific railroad bypassed Lawndale by a mile, the local ranchers Thomas Eubank and G.W. Mason set aside a tract, having realized early the potential that the railroad presented, which they called Mabank. Over the next few years, most of Lawndale residents moved to the new community of Mabank. While the cotton industry and the agricultural enterprises were still the mainstay of Mabank’s economy, local commercial ventures were set up to cash in on the town’s proximity to the railroad.

Unlike the fate that befell many small Texas towns, Mabank did not see any significant decline during the period between the end of World War II and the mid-1960s. The town’s economy stayed fairly stable and especially after the completion of the Cedar Creek Reservoir, the town started to grow rapidly enough.

Today, Mabank gives the impression of a small but prosperous community-based town which promotes health, environment, community and quality of life. Although not located too far off from the bustling cities of Houston or Dallas, coming to a place like Mabank, you will feel like you have come to a different America altogether!
