With Agua Fria River running through it, Black Canyon City is located in the heart of the Arizona State at less than 50 miles from the capital city of Arizona. Black Canyon City, a census designated place in southern part of Yavapai County at an elevation of 1,975 feet with apopulationof less than 3000.
The place is historically known for being a stage stop on the Phoenix to Prescott line and was a military stop over between Fort Whipple and Fort Verde during the Territorial times.The city was also known as Goddard and Cañon in the past. The main employer in the early 1900s was the Kay Copper Mine. The town’s Black Canyon Trail traces served as a livestock route and dates back to almost 1600s, and was officially recognized in 1919. Today this is a great place for a picnic and has restrooms, parking, and ramadas, the sheltered picnic tables. One can enjoy the scenic beauty of Arizona here.
