The village of Los Lunas is located in Valencia County, towards the middle of the state of New Mexico, and with a population of roughly 15,000. The village is named after the Luna family, who were initial settlers in the area. The village is placed close to many battle sites between Confederate and Union soldiers during the American Civil War, and is also home to many historic sites. Visitors are encouraged to see the Historic Route 66, a rough network of roads formed in the early 1920’s that often saw police, FBI, criminals, and Dust Bowl refugees speeding along its various routes. The Luna Mansion, originally built in 1881, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and now houses a popular restaurant. The ghost of Josefina Oreto supposedly haunts the house, though should you need to contact any authorities during your visit, CenturyLink Internet, Telephone, and Prism TV are available to communicate your ghost busting needs.

Nearby landmarks include Tome Hill, a location filled with ancient petroglyphs that date back over 2000 years. The hill has also been used as a sacred religious site and point of defence from enemies and floods. The area surrounding Los Lunas also contains the Decalogue Stone, a large piece of rock that has a version of the 10 commandments inscribed with an early form of Hebrew, and is estimated at being anywhere from 500 to 2000 years old. The village has frequent events throughout the year, including the St Patrick’s Day Balloon Rally, a 4th of July Parade, fireworks ant Daniel Fernandez Park, and the Holiday Electric Light Parade. Well-known residents of the village include science fiction author Walter Jon Williams, rock icon Bo Diddley, and women’s suffragist Adelina Otero-Warren.
