Lenovo is currently in the works of developing a new standalone VR headset
Virtual reality is a rather new phenomenon that is slowly but surely taking over the world of
gaming and digital entertainment in general. Lenovo is a company widely known for its
innovative computers and other technology relates acrospires however, the company is
beginning to lean into new territory as it has recently filed an FCC patent for a new Lenovo
headset under the name Lenovo VR3030S.
The new VR headset by the company is set to be a standalone VR headset, that means that it
won’t require you to plug it into a computer or phone as all of its graphics processing power will
be built-in to the system and only require an internet connection.
Lenovo has also announced that the new VR headset will run on a yet
unannounced VR platform such as Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality or Valve’s Steam VR.
An interesting fact to note about the company is that they were behind the famous Oculus Rift
S headset. Lenovo also has a licensing deal with Sony which is why many people speculate that
the Oculus Rift headset has the same headband as the Sony PlayStation VR headset.
The FCC filings made in regards to the new “Lenovo VR3030S” headset did not come with any
specific details about technical specifications. However, since the company has already made
the filing, there is also speculation that the company is planning on filing FCC certificate
documents for a new set of VR controllers which will be compatible with their newly released
headset.
One reason for this is because the Mirage Solo heavily relied on Google’s built-in wands
however later on Lenovo wound up building its own simple two-button sticks. This was done for
the second-generation Mirage AR headset which was in partnership with Disney. As we wait for
more details to be released about the Lenovo VR3030S headset, we can rest assured that it will
be built upon the lessons that the company learned from its prior mistakes with its previously
released VR headset.
