Located at the foot of Mount Timpanogos, the city of American Fork in Utah County, Utah, serves as a gateway to many recreational quarters via American Fork Canyon. The city is located in the Utah Valley south of Salt Lake City and just north of Provo, Utah. Other nearby towns and communities include Lehi, Vineyard, Lindon, Pleasant Grove, Saratoga Springs, Alpine, Cedar Hills and Highland.
According to one estimate, the population of American Fork was 28,326 in 2015, up from about 23,600 as of the 2000 census. That is a whopping 20% growth in population in 15 years! This is also reflective of the continuous growth of the city since the 1970s.
As with most cities in the US, American Fork started out as a settlement colony from somewhere around the mid-1850s. Primarily, the settlement was known as Lake City, but the name was later changed in order to avoid confusion with the neighboring settlement of Salt Lake City.
