Bedford is a borough in and the county seat of Bedford County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is located 102 miles west of Harrisburg, the state capital, and 107 miles east of Pittsburgh. Bedford’s population was 2,841 at the 2010 census.

The county seat of Bedford County in Pennsylvania, Bedford is a borough that was incorporated in 1795. The history of the town in intertwined with the Whiskey Tax Rebellion that occurred in the last decade of 18th Century primarily in western regions of the state of Pennsylvania during the George Washington administration. A tributary of the Susquehanna River, the Raystown Branch Juniata River passes right through Bedford. Bedford is a haven for those who love history as it is home to Fort Bedford Museum, Bedford County Library, and National Museum of the American Coverlet.
Situated at an elevation of 1100 ft, it was quite popular back in the day for its curative spring waters. It is home to the legendary Bedford Springs Hotel which was treated as the Summer White House by President James Buchanan during his presidency. Formerly known as the Forbes road, which was a series of Indian trails that were joined to create a new road to move timber, is still one of the major transport routes in the region now known as the Pennsylvania Turnpike toll road. The vicinity to this grand route, although it bypasses Bedford puts in on the map and makes transportation one of the major occupations of its inhabitants.
