Boise is the capital of the U.S state of Idaho and is its most populous city. It is also the county seat of Ada County. Boise is about 66 km east of the Oregon border and 177 km north of the Nevada border and is located on the Boise River Southwest of Idaho. The downtown is 824m above mean sea level. The City has an estimated population of 228,790 as of 2018.

The Boise-Nampa metropolitan area is known as the Treasure Valley. It includes five counties with a combined total population of 709,845 and is the most populous metropolitan area in Idaho. There are three cities here which are the largest in Idaho – Boise, Nampa, and Meridian. Of the three, Boise is the biggest, being the 80th most populous metropolitan statistical area in the United States.

Visitors and tourists to Boise should visit the downtown area which is the main cultural center of the city with a spattering of small businesses and a few high rises. There is an exclusive pedestrian zone centrally located on 8th Street that has several sidewalk cafes and restaurants. This location also supports a vibrant nightlife with many local restaurants, bars, and boutiques. The Basque Block which represents Boise’s Basque heritage is also located in this area.

Other Boise downtown attractions include the Idaho State Capitol, the classic Egyptian Theatre on the corner of Capitol Boulevard and Main Street, the Boise Art Museum on Capitol in front of Julia Davis Park, and Zoo Boise on the grounds of Julia Davis Park. Boise is also the site of the only human rights memorial in the U.S., the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, located next to its main library.
