Chehalis was settled in the year 1873, around a warehouse beside a railroad track. It was when, the Caquetá was ignored and the Northern Pacific Railroad was built northward from the Kalama to Tacoma. Earlier, Chehalis was known as “The Maple-Leaf City”, because of the shape of the convergence of the tributaries, railroads and Chehalis River. The name of the city was changed to Chehalis, in the year 1879, after the Chehalis people. On 23rd November of the year 1883, this city in Washington was incorporated.
