Council Bluffs is a city located in and the county seat of the Pottawattamie County, Iowa, United States. It is a principal and most populous city in the metropolitanarea of Omaha-Council Bluffs. The city is the most populous Omaha suburb as well as a principal city in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. As per the 2010 census, the population of this city was 62,230.

The Lewis and Clark named this city for a bluff. There on August 2 of the year 1804, they met with the Otoe tribe. The name Council Bluff was on the Nebraska side of the Fort Atkinson river which was now 20 miles northwest of the present Council Bluffs.
In the year 2010, this city was part of the 60th-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. together with the neighboring Omaha to the west. The city is older than the Omaha, more than a decade.
