One was the Calumet and Arizona Company Smelter built in 1902 and the other was the Copper Queen whichoperated in Douglas from 1904. In 1931, the Phelps Dodge Corporation purchased the Calumet and Arizona Company, took over their smelter and renamed it the Douglas Reduction Works.
