Elk, WA 99009 is an unincorporated rural community in northern Spokane County, Washington, United States. For tourists, the best time to visit Elk is in summer when the residents celebrate Father’s Day as part of Pioneer Days as well as the rich history of the community. All residents of Elk come together, generally at the Elk Park to have fun and make merry the whole day with various vendors and festivities that include a car show and parade.

Elk has been named after the animal elk seen in the area. The earliest known existence of this rural existence dates back to 1892 when a post office was established in the area. However, the current post office is located on the site of the erstwhile Elk Hotel which was destroyed in a fire in the 70s.

As per the last census, the population of Elk is 3,411 with the density being 43 people per square mile. The median age is 40 against the US average of 37.4. The number of people per household is 2.9 with the US average being 2.6.

A breakdown of the population shows that 55% are married, 9.6% divorced, 26.9% are married with children and 20.7% have children but are single. The community is predominantly white, accounting for 93.9% of the population and the rest made up of Asian and Hispanic Ethnicity.

While most counties in the USA boast of tourist attractions, restaurants, and star hotels, there is a unique side to Elk. It is an infrastructure that caters to the old and the infirm that need assisted care.

Maravilla AFH is one such facility that takes wonderful care of the elderly and provides parking, dementia-friendly menus, concierge service, gardening, private dining area, 24-hour emergency response, individual service assessment, 24-hour secured premises, and weight management.  Apartments for seniors have non-slip floors, other safety measures and plenty of closet space.

Elk might have a small population but residents and visitors are not short of high-speed Internet connectivity, almost at par with major cities in the USA. CenturyLink provides DSL and Fiber connectivity with download speeds of 1GBPS and upload speed from 2 to 1,000 MBPS.
