CenturyLink Internet Ephrata, WA 98823
Ephrata, WA 98823 is a city in Grant County, Washington, United States. As per the census of 2010, the population of Ephrata was 7,664.
The settlement of Ephrata is quite recent and was officially incorporated on June 21, 1909, being given the county seat for the newly created Grant County. Even till 1886, three years before Washington attained Statehood, there was no known settlement in the area.
Originally, Douglas County was spread over the entire area but in 1909, the Washington State legislature carved out Grant County from the area for administrative convenience and Ephrata was chosen as the county seat.
Around the turn of the century, Ephrata was sparsely populated and great herds of wild horses roamed the land. The region became an important horse trading center, helping to boost the local economy. Ephrata flourished as a trade and service center for cattle and sheep ranches until the construction of the Columbia Basin Reclamation Project. This was a huge fillip to irrigation and the county seat prospered in agriculture produce.
In 1939, one of the state’s longest runways was built at Ephrata Municipal Airport. It was exclusively used by the U.S. Army Air Corps until 1945 after which it became a commercial airport.
Visitors to Grant County have plenty of tourist spots to take in. Even though the Dry Falls no longer carries water as the name suggests, the 3.5 miles of sheer cliffs that drop 400 ft is awe-inspiring. The Grant County Historical Museum and Village has a wonderful collection of old pictures, tools, farm equipment and Indian artifacts from the homestead era.
