Located at a distance of 114 miles from Austin and 123 miles from Dallas, the city of Hamilton (76531-2837) is the county seat of Hamilton County, Texas. Like many early Texas settlements, the place which is now Hamilton started out as a colony of cotton production farms.

Hamilton County was formed by the decree of the Sixth Legislature from parts of Bosque, Comanche and Lampasas counties and by the turn of the century, the cotton fields in the area covered a whopping 47,500 acres of county land. Today, agricultural enterprises that include cotton production as well as featured vineyards and wineries play a major role in the economy of the town. However, manufacturing, retail and services sector have grown in the recent decades, too.

Still, Hamilton has been able to retain its small-town charm to this day and the town residents value the community based way of life which is a defining characteristic of the place. The motto for the city that reads ‘Hamilton, what a hometown should be’ says just as much!

Hamilton is also called the ‘Dove Capital of Texas’ and those with a taste for hunting can hunt for deer and dove at an available land lease. The town also hosts an annual Dove Festival & wild Wing Cookoff! Also, many will be interested to know that Hamilton Texas was the hometown of Billy the Kid. One can find the grave of William “Brushy Bill” Roberts at the Oakwood Cemetery situated north of the town. You can get to know a lot more about the exploits of this exceptional and charismatic figure at the Billy the Kid Museum in town.

Hamilton and the adjoining area of town is also home to a number of scenic parks, lakes and pools which provide plenty opportunities for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, wildlife watch, camping and more and they are certain to appeal to active individuals and families. The Pecan Creek Park & Walking Trail is the most famous of these destinations. There is also a dedicated softball field in the town, a multi-sports complex and a golf course at the Perry Country Club, Hamilton.
