Located on the Atlantic coastal plain, Hinesville is a city in Liberty County, Georgia, United States. It is the county seat of Liberty County and is the main city of the Hinesville metropolitan area. Apart from Liberty County, it also encompasses Fort Stewart army installation and neighboring Long County.
The history of Hinesville goes back to 1838, the year it was founded. It was in the same year that the seat of Liberty County was transferred from Riceboro to Hinesville with the city being incorporated in 1916. Hinesville is named after Charleton Hines, a state senator.
The 2010 United States Census shows that there were 33,437 residents of the city of which Blacks constituted 45.8%, 35.0% White, 0.4% Native American, 2.5% Asian, 0.7% Pacific Islander, 0.2% from some other race and 3.9% from two or more races. 11.5% were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The city later had the poor distinction of being named the most boring city in Georgia by the Business Insider in 2017. Lack of entertainment for travelers was cited as the reason for this dubious declaration. In 2017, Hinesville only had 25 full-service restaurants, 4 bars, and 13 hotels in the Hinesville metropolitan area.
This of course is not entirely true. The city has the wonderful Bryant Commons, a park offering a lot of activities. There are many walking trails, a fishing pond, pet-friendly areas, a park especially for the kids, and a huge field that is ideal for functions, a round of football and other sports.
There is also the Cherokee Rose County Club for a round of golf and the Fort Stewart Museum of army installations.
Hinesville is a CenturyLink Internet City and is connected to the rest of the country and internationally through high-speed Internet connectivity. Residents and visitors get lightning-fast 1 GBPS download and 2 to 1000 MBPS upload speeds.
