Sitting on a total area of 58.4 square miles, Minneapolis Minnesota is located in Hennepin County in the state of Minnesota. This city was founded by John H. Stevens and Franklin Steele and finally got incorporated in 1867. Around this time, there was only one school teacher who was honored with the chance to name the town. He combined mni (a Dakota Sioux word), which means water, and polis (a Greek word), which means city to make Minneapolis.
Minneapolis (55444-1756) lies on both banks of the Mississippi River. Therefore, the city is richly supplied with water having 13 lakes, many waterfalls and creeks. It was under these factors that the city grew developing the lumbering industry early enough. The industries were powered by water from the highest fall on the river, Saint Anthony Falls. By 1871, 23 related businesses had been opened; flour mills, wooden mills, and iron works among many others. With that and its hot-summer humid continental climate, the city has attracted an estimated population of 410,939 in 2015, being ranked the 46th largest city in the United States. The population is mostly dominated by Whites, but African Americans, American Indians, Asians and Latinos are also present.
Minneapolis Minnesota boasts of its rich culture, standing out in both music and visual arts from the Minneapolis Institute of Art where people acquire skills and also hosts many collections including the Rembrandt’s Lucretia of 1666. Additionally, the city has been known for its many theaters including Pence Opera, the Lyceum and the Metropolitan Opera House. To achieve the American dream, education is a priority and the city is the home to about 100 public schools of all levels. Its transport system is well developed in roads, rail and even air transport; the Minneapolis- Saint Paul International Airport is located in the town.
