In the heart of Pine County in the State of Minnesota is Pine City. The city sits on a 3.91 square mile piece of land. As its name suggests, it was named so due to the presence of white pines in the area that were originally inhabited by the Dakota Indians. With the signing of the White Pine Treaty, lumbering began but later accelerated by the construction of the railroad. The city grew from that serving not only its residents but also farmers and the growing lumbering industry.

When the city started in 1890, it only had 535 residents but as per the 2010 census, it had grown to 3,127. It is frequented by tourists who enjoy some of the city’s attractions and luxuries, such as, its restaurants, casinos, recreation center, or the wonderful scenes, such as, the St. Croix River Valley, the downtown specialty stores, golf courses and the local historical site at the Snake River.

In 2010, 2011, and 2012 Pine City was placed on the list of “Best communities for Music Education in America”. In 2009, the Pine Center for the Arts was opened in Downtown. The center is a regional arts facility that houses a variety of education and performance-based programs relating to theatre, music, visual art, literature, and dance. There are a variety of other performances held at the Pine Center for the Arts Center throughout the year. In addition, the Pine City Arts Council sponsors many events throughout the year, most notably the Free Friday Night summer concert series held in Robinson Park.
