Kearney Missouri located in Clay County Missouri has a population close to 4,000. Spread out over a total land area of 12.92 square miles. With a diverse make up, Kearney consist of 2,978 households, and 2,270 families according to the 2010 census. Kearney is made up of 96.2% White, 0.4% African American, 0.4% Native American, along with a mix of Asian, Pacific Islander, and other races.
One of Kearney’s claims to fame is being the birthplace of Jesse James, who was born September 5, 1847 on the James family farm on the Northeast side of present day Kearney. Jesse James is perhaps the most notorious outlaw of the Old Wild West. Every year in September, the town organizes the Annual Jesse James Festival.
The historic Mt Gilead Church, built in 1830, attracts sightseers and locals regularly. Kearney is a 30-minute drive from downtown Kansas City and its many attractions – sports, eating-houses, art galleries, and theaters. The town regularly features high on the “America’s Manliest City” list.
The Mack- Porter Trail, which extends for one mile, and Fishing River Trail, which covers a four-mile loop, are popular walking trails in town. Mack Porter Park, with its baseball and softball fields, is ideal for the youth to spend their energy in healthy activities.
