Laurel; is a city that is located at the Yellow stone County, Montana. Laurel boasts of being the third largest community in the Billings Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

In the past, people used to pass through what is today known as Laurel. Due to this, it was originally referredto as the station of Carlton. This was later changed in 1883 when the place was named Laurel after a local shrub. This was during the gold rush period where gold had been discovered at the Clarks Forks Headwaters. However, in 1879, settlers began settling in what is today known as Laurel city. With time, a post office was established in this area and this prompted more settlements. A railway was also established and through this, many people started to work around this city. Consequently, the population grew and by 1920 the population had skyrocketed to 2338 people. This city was incorporated in August 1908.
