History:
The city of Mitchell was named after the Alexander Mitchell, who was the Saint Paul Railwayand the Chicago, Milwaukeepresident. He was also a Milwaukee banker and democratic politician. In 1879, the first settlement was made in this city and in 1883, it was officially incorporated. In the year 2000 to 2001, a professional basketball club of Mitchell city ‘South Dakota Gold’ competed in the International Basketball Association.
