The City of Palestine is the county seat of Anderson County, Texas. Located roughly in the middle of three major Texas cities of Houston, Dallas and Austin, the town is famed as much for its natural beauty as for the many historic sites that it is home to. In fact, this East Texas town hosts as many as 23 historical sites that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

As for the scenic splendor of the town, for all the beautiful surroundings of Palestine Texas (75801-4316) heaped as it is with generous servings of lush woodlands, pellucid lakes and gorgeous rivers, it is really the Dogwood floral bloom season which wins the day and is perhaps the most talked after phenomenon about the town.

And the best place to experience this is the Davey Dogwood Park. This sprawling 200-acre park remains open all year round and is full of many exciting hiking trails, the longest of them stretching up to five miles. But if you are at Palestine to savor its natural grandeur, you would really want to be here either during the period of late March-early April which is when the Dogwoods go into bloom or during the November fall foliage season.

Also, if you have a taste for history and architecture, you would be loath to miss any of the major historic sites in the town. But if you don’t have that much time at your disposal, your must-see list should include at least the following three historic buildings of Palestine: the Anderson County Courthouse (built in 1914 following a beaux-arts design), the Historic Anderson County Jail (built in 1931 in art deco style), and the Carnegie Library—a registered Texas Historical Landmark built back in 1914.

Apart from these, other major places of interest include the Texas State Railroad Society Museum, Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility, Howard House Museum as well as places of natural beauty and recreational activities such as Lake Palestine, Palestine Community Forest, Grapeland Safari, Reagan Park, and more.
