Redmond is an American city in King County, Washington, United States. The city is located in the suburbs of Seattle. This city is home to the headquarters of the Microsoft software publisher and the US branch of Nintendo. The city is also known for its many parks, Velodrome its bike races, and famously known as “Bicycle Capital of the Northwest”.
History:
Native Americans had lived in the Redmond area for over 10,000 years, and the first settlers arrived in the 1870s. On September 9, 1870, Lucke filed a claim for the Rural Settlements Act for territories close to Sammamish Slough, and the following year, Warren Perrigo granted him lands adjacent to him. The rivers and streams had so much salmon that the settlement was initially called Salmonberg. More settlers arrived, and with the establishment of the first post office in 1881, the name of the community was changed to Melrose. The new name was taken from the successful Inn of the Perrigo’s, Melrose House, which annoyed McRedmond. After becoming a postmaster, he successfully requested that the name should be changed to Redmond in 1883.

The Redmond city is nestled 16 miles away from the east of Seattle and covers the area of 16.94 sq. miles. According to the United States Census Bureau, out of 16.94 sq. miles area, the 16.28 sq. miles area is covered by the land and the 0.66 sq. miles area is covered by the water. It is situated at 47°40′10″N 122°07′26″W.

Redmond has 23 public parks with the area of 4 km2 in total. Most of them are neighborhood parks with picnic tables and spaces for sports. The largest is Marymoor Park and covers the area of 2.3 km2. It includes the velodrome, a climbing rock, a large dog park and an Open – Air Theater. The city also offers 27 kilometers of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
