Located on the shores of the Dyes Inlet on the Kitsap Peninsula, Silverdale is a census-designated place in Kitsap County, Washington. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 19,204 and there were a total of 4,059 families residing in the area. Several attempts have been made to date to incorporate Silverdale, but it still remains an unincorporated community.

The history of the Silverdale Washington area is a diversified one. It is believed that Native American Salish people used to live comfortably in the Kitsap Peninsula area for thousands of years, using cedar canoes to navigate the local waterways around the peninsula.

However, all of that changed once the explorers set their foot in these areas and the settlers followed soon on their trail. By the mid-1850s, the Suquamish people were made to surrender most of their land around the peninsula to the government of the United States. Logging and the timber production were the earliest industries that flourished in the region but soon after the thick forests were cleared up, the settlers found that the area provided excellent farming opportunities and the family farms began to thrive.

Today Silverdale has of course come a long way from those olden days. As is expected for a place blessed with such an abundance of natural beauty, the town has redefined itself as a tourists’ magnet. There are beachfront hotels with gorgeous views of the Olympia Mountains, Mt. Rainier and the Dyes Inlet. The Kitsap County Silverdale Waterfront Park , located within walking distance from two of the largest hotels in Kitsap County—the Best Western Plus Silverdale Beach Hotel and the Oxford Suites, offers a host of sporting and recreational activities. Located nearby is the Port of Silverdale Boat Launch which provides guest moorage, trailer parking and public boat ramp among other things.

But more than anything, Silverdale’s fame rests on its being the most attractive shopping destination outside of Seattle-Tacoma. Inside The Trails of Silverdale and especially, the famous Kitsap Mall, you will find impress band retails, such as, Buffalo Wild Wings, Trader’s Joe, REI, Macy’s, Costco, Olive Garden and many more.
