CenturyLink Internet SURPRISE, AZ
Why Surprise was named so? The city was founded in 1938 by Flora Mae Statler as she said that “she would be surprised if the town ever amounted to much”. Officials initially thought that the city was founded by Statler’s husband and state legislator Homer C. Ludden. But the property records discovered in 2010 showed that Statler owned the parcel of land before she met Ludden.
Surprise is located in Maricopa County in the State of Arizona. The population was a mere 30,848 as per the 2000 census but rapid expansion in the next decade took the numbers past 117,517 in the next decade (census 2010). Hence, Surprise became the sixth fastest-expanding place among all cities and towns in Arizona. Even in the present census estimates of 2019, exponential growth in population is noticed with the numbers touching 141,664.
Even though Surprise is a small place, it has lots to offer for the residents as well as visitors. While multiplexes showing first-run films are common in cities (Surprise is no exception) two attractions deserve special mention.
The first is the Truman Ranch II. Every weekend between December and March, Truman Ranch is open to one and all. You and your family with kids can have fun picking fruits of your choice from any tree of your choice – and there are hundreds to choose from. Take your pick from grapefruit to oranges, from tangelo to lemons, and more.
The second is the Surprise stadium, spring training home of the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals. The stadium has easy entry and exit and there is always sumptuous food on offer, from chicken grills to Mexican and Chinese.
