Temple city is in bell county and has a population of 78,439. It was founded in 1881 by Colorado, Gulf, and Santa Fe Railroad as a railroad town. Its name was derived from an official of Santa Fe Railroad by the name Bernard Moore Temple. Temple was the former surveyor, a civil engineer with the Colorado, Gulf, and Santa Fe Railway company. The town was known to have tents and shacks, with a large number of saloons found in the early west. Today, Temple has become a large city with various economic and tourism attraction activities.
