Troy Missouri is the county seat of Lincoln County, and is an hour drive from St. Louis. Troy has a population of around 10,540 according to the 2010 census. Troy was originally platted in 1819, where some claim came from Troy, New York while others believe the name transferred from Troy, Vermont. The Downtown Troy Historic District was recently named on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Troy Missouri and the surrounding areas offer a lot to see and do for tourist and locals. The Cuivre River State Park lies to the northeast of Troy, spread out over 3,000 acres, offering nature lovers opportunities to swim, fish, hike, trek, and enjoy birding. Lock and Dam Number 25 is a favorite spot with birders looking to sight a bald eagle.

In nearby Elsberry, you can check out calabooses, these stone structures were used as jails in the early 19th century. The site of Wood’s Fort, which dates back to the American War of Independence, is a nice place to learn about the history of Troy.
