West Point Nebraska is the county seat of Cuming County. The city is home to around 4,000 residents according to the 2010 census spread over a total area of 2.73 square miles. West Point was first founded in 1857, when the businessmen of Omaha, formed the Nebraska Settlement Association. William Sexauer and Uriah, John and Andrew Bruner (three brothers) chose the present location of West Point as a suitable townsite in the Elkhorn Valley. Originally named New Philadelphia, the name was later changed to West Point because it was the westernmost outpost along the valley.
