CenturyLink Internet City Windermere, FL 34786
Windermere is a town in Orange County, Florida and is part of the Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population of the town was 2,462.
The origins of Windermere dates back to 1888 when a Post Office was opened in the town. It was closed in 1901 but subsequently reopened in 1911. Windermere was chartered in 1925 after it was established as a residential development in 1889.
In late 2007, the Town of Windermere submitted a proposal to annex the wealthy subdivisions of Isleworth and Butler Bay. However, this resulted in an extensive debate from the town residents and fierce resistance from Orange County which stood to lose millions of dollars in property taxes if the recommendation went through. After lengthy discussions, it was decided that Isleworth would remain unincorporated but Butler Bay was annexed into Windermere after 90% of its residents approved annexation via a mail-in ballot.
For visitors to Windermere, a must-visit place is the Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. At 3-ton weight, the section is the second-largest piece of the Titanic ever recovered.
