The town of Coupeville was founded in the 1850s and was named after Thomas Coupe, the captain of a ship. In 1854, he has constructed a house in the town with the usage of Californian redwood. In 1910, the town was incorporated. In 1978, Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve was formed on Whidbey Island by the Congress which is one of the biggest National Historical Reserves of the United States.
