Lying on the West Coast of the United States, Seattle is a seaport city in King County, Washington. As of 2017, the city had an estimated population of 713700. This city is the largest in the state of Washington.
According to archaeological excavations, the Seattle area has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 4000 years. Up to the time Europeans arrived at the area, the Duwamish tribe had occupied 17 villages. George Vancouver was the first European to arrive at the area in 1792. On January 14th, 1865, the town of Seattle was incorporated. On January 18, 1867, this city was dis-incorporated. New petitions were filed and the city was permanently incorporated on December 2nd, 1869.
The city has a land area of 83.9 square miles. Seattle is said to be a city that lies on the 7 hills (Capitol Hill, First Hill, West Seattle, Beacon Hill, Magnolia, Denny Hill, and Queen Anne), just like Rome. The United States Census Bureau states that out of the total area of 142.5 square miles, 83.9 square miles is filled by land while 58.7 square miles is filled with water.
