Tukwila is a suburban city that is located in King County, Washington. This city is inhabited by many communities. A large commercial center draws visitors and workers to the city daily. As at 2015, an estimate from the Office of Financial Management stated that the city had a population of 20018.
The Duwamish were the first people to settle in the area. This city’s name hails from the Chinook jargon word for ‘nut’ or ‘hazelnut. This came about as a result of the numerous hazel trees that grew in the area. The first Caucasian settler in this area was Joseph Foster. He is fondly regarded as the ‘father of Tukwila’. The area grew mainly as an agricultural center. With time, the population and industrialization became rampant. The city was incorporated in 1908.
Tukwila has a total area of 9.58 square miles according to the United States Census Bureau. Out of this, 9.17 square miles is occupied by land while the rest 0.41 square miles is occupied by water. The city lies at 47°28′42″N 122°16′32″W.
