The city of Snohomish was founded in 1859 by Emory Canda Ferguson along with Edson F. Cady. The city was initially named as Cadyville but in 1871, it was changed to Snohomish. In the late 1860s, the first school was opened in the city. In 1890, the city was incorporated and Hyrcanus Blackman became the first mayor of this city. In 1969, Snohomish Historical Society was established and in 2004, Historic Downtown Snohomish was founded in the city.
